LoRa sensor grid

PersonalJun 2026 – ongoingSolo

Long-range wireless sensors watching the fridge and display cases in my father's shop, without running a single cable.

Context & objective

My father needed to know when the shop’s fridge or display cases drift out of their temperature range, without running cables through the shop.

What I built

  • Sensor nodes on LilyGO T3 (ESP32 + LoRa) boards and an SX1302 LoRaWAN gateway.
  • The gateway’s link to the LoRaWAN network goes through The Things Network.
  • Everything after it runs on my own server, in Docker: ChirpStack, an MQTT broker (Mosquitto), Telegraf, InfluxDB for the readings and Grafana for the dashboards.
  • A technical dossier, presented to researchers at the observatory.

Challenges

Getting the nodes and the gateway joined and reporting reliably, then carrying the readings from the radio side into my own data stack.

What I learned

TODO(content): in your own words. Raw material: LoRaWAN end to end, writing a technical dossier for a research audience.
